The hobby of customizing sports figures allows me to express my artistic passion coupled with the love of sports, which can be expressed with a customized 6-inch (Or 12 inch) figure in baseball, hockey, football or basketball, and some specialty sports. You can see in the photos above that I have stretched the boundaries and completed a surfer, women's softball, a tennis player, a musician, fisherman, and more. Click "Art Work" above.
ABOUT
My name is Glenn D'Avanzo. I am a high school wellness teacher and have played and coached baseball and many other sports over the past 33 years. I graduated from Springfield College and acquired my masters at Framingham State University. I spend much of my time attending my son's sports.
The hobby of customizing sports figures is done by acquiring a stock Mcfarlane, Import Dragons figure or 3d printing. I then dismantle all the body parts and head. Next, I sand the figure and if needed I will cut any limbs that I need to reconfigure by drilling holes and feeding wire into the positions desired. Next, is sculpting with clay or apoxsee to mold. The next phase is to paint with a layer of primer. When it dries then a wet sand process gets it ready for the 1st of many layers of paint. After that, it is reassembled and a clear coat is put on to get ready for the decal process. Once all the decals are finished, the last bit of touch up paint and final coat of clear before the photos of the final product are taken. ​

FAQ
Q: What sizes do the figures come in?
A: I specialize in 6-inch figures. Figures do come in 12 inches. Note: 12 inches have limited availability.
Q: How long does it take to make a figure?
A: The making of a custom figure can take 4-6 weeks. This can vary depending on the demand for orders and available stock figures. I have completed some in 1 week. If it is a team order of multiple players it can take 8+ weeks.

A customer asked the artist, how much it would cost to do a custom figure?
The artist gave the proposal a price of: $250
The customer responded: That’s seems really high.
The artist asked: What do you think is a reasonable price for this job?
The customer answered: $100- $125 maximum
The artist responded: Ok, then I invite you to do it yourself.
The customer answered: I don't know how.
The artist responded: Alright, then how about for $75 I'll teach you how to. So besides saving you $175, you'll learn valuable skills that you will be able to use in the future.
The customer answered: Sounds good! Let’s do it!
The artist responded: Great! To get started, you are going to need some tools. You will need a dremmel, screw driver, table saw, sandpaper, pvc pipe cutter, wire cutter, wire, razors, decal paper, printer, computer, adobe photoshop, spray primer, acrylic paints, brushes, clear finish, collection of stock figures and parts, possibly 3d printer & resin, apoxsee / sculpt clay, rubber gloves, cleaning tools, boxes, packing, website cost, photography tools etc..
The customer answered: But I only have a few of those tools and I can't justify buying all of these for one job.
The artist responded: Ok. Well then for an additional $100 I can rent my tools to you to use for this project.
The customer answered: Okay. That’s fair.
The artist responded: Great! We will start the project on Monday.
The customer answered: I work Monday through Friday. I’m only available on the weekends.
The artist responded: If you want to learn from me then you will need to work when I work. This project will take a few hours a a day for 4 weeks, so you will need to take time off work.
The customer answered: That means I’m going to have to sacrifice my pay for those days or use my vacation time!
The artist responded: That’s true. Remember, when you do a job yourself you need to account for unproductive factors.
The customer answered: What do you mean by that?
The artist responded: Doing a job completely from start to finish includes time spent to plan the project, order or pick up materials, time to set up, computerize, clean up, waste disposal and packing to ship. That’s in addition to the actual shaping, painting, and decaling the project itself. And speaking of materials, that’s where we will start on Monday, so I need you to meet me at AC Moore, Michaels, then Home depot. Or we can order on Amazon and wait for it all to ship.
The customer answered: But I need the finished product before the celebration, but Ok, I’ll order it all.
The artist responded: We will begin when all the materials arrive.
The customer answered: You know, I’m realizing that a lot more goes into a Custom Sports Figure than what a customer sees in the finished project. Your proposal of $250 is very reasonable. I would like you to create this project.

CONCLUSION:
When you pay for artwork, especially a custom job, whether it’s a physical project or digital project, you pay not only for the material and the work to be completed. You also pay for:
Expertise, Knowledge, Experience, Custom Skills, Tools, Time to plan, Time to prepare, Professionalism, Commitment, Integrity, Taxes, Personal time
CUSTOMERS: If you request a proposal for custom work to be done, please respect the service provider or artist by not trying to get them to lower their prices. If the proposal exceeds your budget, there’s nothing wrong with getting other proposals.
Just remember.. typically, you get what you pay for.
Artists: Know your worth and be confident in it.
